So the hype is on! VMware has announced a brand new offering for the vSphere family of products in an Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) vCloud Hybrid Service. Some things to know:
- vCloud Hybrid Services IaaS is owned and operated by VMware and built on a VMware vShpere foundation.
- Currently this is only offered to a limited number of customers with the ‘Early Access Program’ which you can inquire about through your VMware Sales Representative.
- Currently only available in the US, but will expand globally in 2014
My thoughts on this is that it seems like a great option that will give orgainzations some flexibility with their services already running on a vShpere infrastructure. I have no info on what they are charging at this point but I would imagine that it’s not much different from other cloud providers. It’s arguably cheaper to run a public infrastructure where the costs are spread out over many customers.
